How we use AI
Some of our coverage is produced with AI tools, including automatically. Our readers deserve a straight answer about how, and where we draw the line. This is ours.
Where we use it
- Research: finding and cross-checking primary sources, monitoring announcements, and gathering the numbers and quotes a story needs. Every figure is checked against the primary source before it reaches a page.
- Drafting and publishing: AI tools help us research, draft and publish our coverage, including automatically and on a schedule. Every piece is bound by the same gates regardless: at least one primary source, dated claims for anything that changes, and a stated verdict on how strong the evidence is.
- Our own tooling: parts of this site are built with AI coding tools.
Where we do not
- No unsourced claims. The gates are enforced by the software, not by memory. A piece without a primary source does not publish, automatically or otherwise.
- No publishing to hit a timer. A slow news day means fewer pieces, not padded ones.
- No fabricated imagery presented as real, and no invented quotes. Quotes are real, already published, and attributed to where they were actually said.
Bylines
Pieces published automatically carry the publication itself as the byline, never a person. A named byline on this site means a person wrote or checked that specific piece and stands behind it. We would rather give up the warmth of a human name on every article than borrow one for work nobody read first.
Review and corrections
Because some of our publishing is automated, review happens continuously after publication as well as through the gates before it. Corrections are logged and shown publicly on the article itself, never silently patched. If you think something here is wrong, tell us through the contact page and we will treat it as a correction request.
